Late Qing Dynasy (1880s 10 1911) century Chinese glass seal of square section. Wonderful simple piece appropriate for a scholar’s desk, beautiful transparent glass, very pleasant finish to the surface. The bottom is carved with four sunken characters, old dried seal paste in the grooves. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1 (photo is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). Height 1 9/16 inches, 5/8 inches square.

Nice piece with very good casting and chiseling, beautiful patina on the surface, raised knob on one side indication the orientation of the seal. Beautiful buff to red to brown stone with attractive veining giving depth to the surface, old dried red seal paste in the grooves. Overall in good condition, nice scholar’s object. Height 1 1/8 inches, base 13/16 square.

Unusual 19th century Chinese marble brush rest suggesting a dramatic mountain with multiple arches and caves. The piece gives a good feeling of weathered mountain surfaces and quiet energy of the stone. Beautifully carved marble pierced to resemble traditional Taihu limestone, richly textured surface. Natural fissure lines in the stone, no losses or repairs. Excellent functional object for scholar’s table, can be viewed as a scholar’s rock as well. Length 5 1/2 inches.

19th century Chinese lacquer snuff bottle in flask form with inlaid lac burgaute reserves on each side depicting a flower sprig and brocade patterns surrounding the reserve. Lac Burgaute is a French term describing a lacquer technique with inlaid designs using small shapes of iridescent blue-green and purple abalone shell and gold and silver foil. Very well made, well hollowed, original matching stopper, in great condition. Height with stopper 2 9/16 inches.
