Pair of good size early 19th century Japanese sword menuki depicting Seiobo with an attendant, and Tobosaku holding a peach in his hands. Seiobo is the Chinese Queen of the Fairies, with Peach of Immortality ripening on a tree in her garden only once it 3 thousand years. Tobosaku was a witty advisor to Emperor Wu Ti, and is believed to have stolen 3 of the peaches. Fantastic quality work - see their faces and richly decorated textiles. Pair of early 19th century Japanese sword menuki depicting what appears to be different proverbs. The first one llustrates a sentence “A gourd against a catfish” meaning useless effort similar to trying to catch a slippery fish with a gourd. The other one depicts a puzzled man scratching his head by a samurai spear - I am not sure what this particular story is Elegant design, bronze and shakudo with silvering and gilding, overall in very good condition.
