Unusual 19th century Chinese marble brushrest suggesting a dramatic mountain with numerous holes and caves. The piece gives a good feeling of weathered mountain surfaces and quiet energy of the stone. Beautifully carved marble pierced to resemble traditional Taihu limestone, richly textured surface. Natural fissure lines in the stone, no losses or repairs. Excellent functional object for scholar’s table, can work as a scholar’s rock as well. Length 5 1/2 inches.

19th century Chinese scholar’s brushrest in a shape of a wooden branch with richly textured surface resembling numerous swirling clouds. Did not photograph well - photos came out too harsh. Very beautiful and unusual black inky finish, wonderful patina, very pleasant to touch and to hold. Excellent piece in scholar’s taste - one of the most attractive scholar’s objects that I ever had.
