Early 19th century marine ivory (walrus tusk) netsuke of seated Shoki the Demon Queller holding what appears to be a large rice cake between his legs. Nicely carved piece with great face (see his mad cross-eyed look) and beautiful flow of his robe, wonderful patina. 19th century netsuke of a snake coiled around a mother rat while the baby rat tries to escape. Unusual subject, clever composition, wonderful artistic feat of giving animal an anthropomorphic attitude - see the right front paw of the baby raised to its face in distress.
