19th century ivory netsuke of a snarling tigress as she protectively places a paw over her cub. Great facial expressions, beautiful fur texture with excellent etching of hair including darker stripes, powerful paws. Cord hole is formed by natural opening in the carving. Wonderful rhythm to the flow of their tails, eyes are double inlaid with light and dark horn, beautiful staining and patina, old age lines. 19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with Shibayama inlay depicting a fat sea brim on a bed of bamboo leaves. The bowl is dark rosewood, the top is boxwood, materials used for inlay are cherry wood, mother of pearl, black horn and ivory stained green. The inlay is in perfect shape, no losses or repairs. Plain back, two parts fit nicely, beautiful mellow patina. Top diameter 1 1/4 inches, bowl diameter 1 3/4 inches.

19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with Shibayama inlay depicting a butterfly in flight by a bush of berries with stems and leaves. The bowl is ivory, the top is fruitwood, materials used for inlay are cherry wood, mother of pearl, black horn and pink coral. The inlay is in perfect shape, no losses or repairs. Plain back, old age lines in ivory (no cracks), two parts fit nicely, beautiful mellow patina, old silk cord. Top diameter 1 5/16 inches, bowl diameter 1 5/8 inches.

19th century woven metal manju netsuke of square form with rounded corners and complicated lattice design. Excellent metalwork of copper and shibuichi, perfectly woven, top and bottom fit snugly, the best representative of its type that I have had. About1 3/8 inches square.

19th century netsuke carved out of kurumi (natural walnut shell) carved in a shape of a nasu (eggplant). Very clever piece in Japanese taste perfectly capturing shape and textures of the vegetable. Extraordinary deep warm brown patina, old stable split along the seam of the walnut. Signed GADO TADATAKA SAKU (made by Gado Tadataka) on the side - this rare artist is listed on p. 370 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Height 1 3/16 inches.

19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with ivory top and dark rosewood body. The top is carved with medium relief distressed Kikazaru monkey with its hands covering its ears in classic “hear no evil” gesture, all on the incised background of waves. Excellent delicate carving, great face and hairwork. Beautiful wear and patina, in great condition, one of the himotoshi on the back is lined with ivory stained green. Size 1 1/4 x 1 5/8 inches.

Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) Chinese bronze incense burner in a shape of a standing mandarin duck with its head raised. Wings and tail are decorated in champleve technique with red, green, blue, turquoise and yellow enamels with designs referring to ancient Chinese bronzes.
