19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with Shibayama inlay depicting Daikoku’s mallet surrounded by 9 tama (Precious Gems). The bowl is dark rosewood, the top is boxwood, materials used for inlay are black horn, silver, 3 different kinds of mother of pearl, green stone (appears to be jade) and pink coral. The inlay is in perfect shape, no losses or repairs. Plain back, two parts fit nicely, beautiful mellow patina. Top diameter 11/16 inches, bowl diameter 1 9/16 inches.

19th century metal and ivory netsuke in kagamibuta (mirror lid) form. The top is silvered bronze (possibly solid silver) with medium relief fierce dragon twisted around the Precious Gem. Superb quality metalwork - see its face, claws and crisply incised differentiated scales. Warm patina, beautiful fat ivory bowl with clear cross-hatching pattern, swinging metal loop at the back for the cord. Very powerful piece. Diameter 2 inches.

19th century ivory netsuke depicting two monkeys on a tree trunk fighting over a branch with leaves and a pod. Unusual shape, must have been adopted from some sort of handle, extraordinary faces, beautiful hairwork, great patina. Length 3 3/16 inches.

Late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese soapstone ornament in a shape of a Buddha’s hand citron with bone stem. Nicely carved out of light green soapstone with darker and lighter veins giving depth to the material. Very nice patina, pleasant to hold, wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Length with stem 3 3/8 inches.

Judging by the camouflage quality of the coat, armor visible under it and a sword on his back the samurai is participating in an ambush. 19th century ivory netsuke carved as a scene from life of Kanshin - one of the three Heroes of Han Dynasty. Kanshin (Han Sin in Chinese) was a dispossessed Han prince, who chose to crawl between the legs of a street bully rather than fight a man of low birth. 19th century wooden netsuke of an alert beak-nosed frog. Unusual animal in netsuke, excellent rendition of its bumpy skin, wonderful posture, great facial expression. Pupils of its eyes are lacquered. Very beautiful light staining, great patina. Signed SHUKO on its belly - the artist is listed on p. 991 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Excellent netsuke by rare master carver.
