19th century good size white coral ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) of simple ball shape. Does not photograph well. Rather unusual material, nice patina on the surface, few beautiful slight pink areas. Diameter 11/16 inches, weighs 8.8 grams.

19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved as a head of an octopus with thoroughly useless scarf tied around its forehead (usually those scarves are used by workmen to keep the sweat out of their eyes). Great humorous design, wonderful face, natural imperfections in staghorn, compressed dust on the surface, in great condition, signed HAKUSHO on the back. Height 11/16 inches.

19th century Chinese bamboo brushpot carved in the round with a continuous scene of Chinese scholars and peasants by rice bales under pine trees with gnarled branches, all in a setting of mountains, stream and clouds. Seven human figures, each in a distinct attitude, excellent quality carving - see the faces, robes, rocks, clusters of pine needles and textures of tree trunks. Excellent patina, compressed dust in crevices. Superb piece in scholarly taste. Height 5 3/8 inches, width 3 5/8.

Late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese soapstone brushrest carved in a shape of a 5-peaked mountain rising from waves, and pine trees growing on it. Excellent rendition of raw energy of the stone, both dynamic and frozen in dramatic shape. Beautifully carved trees, very beautiful stone of cream color with pink areas and white spots, pleasant finish and great patina. Wonderful object for contemplation on scholarís table. Length 7 3/8 inches, height 3 7/8 inches.

Rather unusual 19th century Chinese glass seal of European shape. Beautiful transparent glass, pleasant finish to the surface. Imprint of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. The bottom is crisply carved with two sank characters that can be translated as CLEAR STUDIO, red seal paste in the grooves. Very nice object for scholarís desk. Height 2 1/8 inches, base 9/16 inches long.

Late Meiji (1910s) ivory okimono of a crouching sumo wrestler leaning on his fists and getting ready to attack an opponent. Excellent concentrated and tranquil face, great sense of volume to his limbs and body. Old age lines, old chip to the side of his right foot. Signed YUKIMITSU in oval reserve on the belt on his belly. Very nice sculpture. Length 1 15/16 inches.
