19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with ivory top and dark rosewood bowl. The top is Chinese ivory carving adopted as netsuke, with deeply undercarved scene of 2 scholars among trees and pavilions. Beautiful wear and patina, overall in very good condition, swinging metal loop at the back for the cord. Diameter 1 9/16 inches.

19th century wooden netsuke representing a fine model of a pottery monkey, the formalized creature seated with one hand on its stomach, the other one on its knee. Does not photograph well. Excellent carving capturing the essence of the object, superb thoughtful face. Dark dense wood, beautiful patina with fantastic sheen. Signed NAOTSUGU on the side - the artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 503, number 1815). Strong piece with distinct character, superb netsuke. Height 2 3/16 inches.

Rather unusual 19th century marine ivory okimono of a huge toad, 2 different species of frogs, a snake and a monkey. Rather unusual grouping, probably illustrates some Japanese proverb or a story: an inscription in irregular reserve on the bottom translates character by character as “value / ten / one / ten thousand”, and is either a reference to the same proverb, or an indication of a high value of the object. 19th century ivory netsuke of an acorn on a branch with leaves on top of a pile of chestnuts. Superbly executed elegant piece in Japanese taste, great naturalistic carving - see the carved crack in the skin of one chestnut, beautiful surface textures, himotoshi formed by a stem on the bottom. Excellent staining, wonderful mellow patina and beautiful wear consistent with age. Length 1 1/4 inches.

Three 19th century metal chains used to connect a tobacco pouch to netsuke with fittings depicting ferocious dragons in low relief. Very nice crisp work, beautiful patina, a lot of chain. Fitting length range from 1/2 to 1 inch, chain lengths are about 3 inches.

19th century staghorn/bone netsuke turned in a shape of hollow double gourd, and pierced and carved on the outside with geometric designs. Himotoshi (cord openings) are formed by 2 longer slots in the middle part of the netsuke. Porous centers of stag antler on both ends are plugged as is usual in such pieces, and plugs are carved as part of the netsuke. Simple honest carving, nice patina, overall in very good condition. Height 1 7/8 inches.

19th century ivory netsuke of a baby boy standing on his knees wearing an apron on his chest and holding a tub with his hands. Extremely well carved, wonderful face and textile patterns.
