Very unusual early 19th century Japanese cloisonne Buddhist alms bowl. Simple elegant shape, unusual use of cloisonne technique on both inside and outside. Inside is decorated with images of 5 children’s toys (a drum, a mouse with a push rod, a spin top, a balancing scarecrow, and a cloth Daruma doll) among scattered flowers on black background with stylized clouds. Late Meiji / early Taisho period small Japanese cloisonne vase decorated with a duck in flight over blooming flowers issuing from rocks. Elegant design and perfect esecution, medium blue background, bronze rims, decoration of tiny circles going around them. In very good condition, beautiful enamel colors, no dents or star cracks. Rather unusual early 19th century Japanese cloisonne scholar’s brushwasher decorated with various flower roundels on light blue background with scrolling clouds. Every roundel is different, very pleasant finish with original pitting, bottom is plain metal with nice wear and patina. Perfect potting, elegant shape, beautiful underglaze powder green ground, eyes and beaks of of the birds are done in underglaze blue, superb even glaze. 19th century netsuke in a form of a natural bamboo root. Beautiful object, superb texture to the surface, very pleasant to handle. Himotoshi (cord opening) goes through the side down to the bottom of the netsuke. Height 1 7/8 inches.

19th century wooden netsuke of Hotei (one of the 7 Gods of Good Luck and incarnation of Maitreya - the Buddha of the future) seated inside his own bag which is tied in a large knot behind his head. Unusual subject - this particular Hotei is not his jolly self, but rather has a pensive expression on his face.
