19th century Chinese scholarís rock / brush rest in a form of a piece of malachite perfectly resembling a range of hills covered with green vegetation. Also resembles a snail or a traveling caterpillar, can be viewed from two sides. Shape and colors may suggest a characteristic Guilin landscape of limestone peaks. Excellent natural stone with pleasant patina, fixed in carved fitted rosewood stand. Wonderful object for contemplation on scholarís desk. Height with stand 2 7/8 inches.

19th century Chinese soapstone seal carved on the top with a Foo lion, its head down to the ground touching a ball. Very beautiful stone with extensive red veining giving extra depth to the carving - probably Shoushan soapstone. Very nice carving, beautiful patina and wear, the bottom is carved with raised characters, red seal paste in the grooves, the impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Late Qing Dynasy (1880s 10 1911) century Chinese Peking glass seal in cylindrical shape. Wonderful simple piece appropriate for a scholarís table, very pleasant finish to the surface. Transparent glass with the slightest pink tinge. The bottom is carved with two raised characters that can be translated as EASTERN GARDEN, red seal paste in the grooves. Imprint of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Height 2 3/8 inches, diameter 1/2 inches.
Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) Chinese seal carved out of solid piece of mother of pearl, the finial in the shape of peach branches with leaves and fruits. Wonderful quality carving on beautiful material providing wonderful play of colors. The bottom is carved with two raised characters that can be translated as PEACH RETREAT, red seal paste in the grooves. Superb patina on the surface, great scholarís object. Height 2 5/8 inches.

Wonderful quality carving on variegated soapstone with colors ranging from tan to yellow to red. The bottom is carved with four raised characters that can be translated as HALL OF BRIGHT RISING SUN, red seal paste in the grooves. Great scholarís object with understated beauty. 19th century Chinese metal stand for a tripod or some other item in a form of overlapping petals. The material of the stand is paktong - an alloy made of copper, nickel and zinc extensively used in China for export objects in the 18th and 19th centuries. Nicely made, very pleasant patina. Widest diameter 3 1/16 inches, height 7/8 inches.
Late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese Canton enamel footed snuff saucer painted in polychrome enamels with Zhong. Kui the Demon Queller in a fighting stance with one foot raised and a sword in his hand, accompanied by 2 bats in flight, all on yellow background. 4-character inscription on the front, the back is plain white. Excellent quality painting, great face and detailing of his clothing and hat. Beautiful patina, very pleasant feel of age. Diameter 1 11/16 inches.
19th century Chinese Yixing snuff bottle with enamel decoration on each side depicting different landscapes in scholarly taste with huts and bridges in the foreground and distant bays and mountains. Did not photograph well - photos came out too harsh. Well modelled, beautiful uninhibited painting with multiple colors. Excellent patina, expected dust and grime accumulation on the surface, wonderful feel of age, jadeite top stopper. Height with stopper 2 11/16 inches.
19th century Chinese fan painting in ink and colors on paper depicting a bird on a branch looking at her nest with 3 chicks. Superb quality work, elegant composition, perfectly captured mood of the scene. Excellent depiction of feathers and plant textures. Inscribed with a poem, signed and sealed by Zhou Xian (1820-1875), dated to the beginning of summer of 1868.
