Rather unusual late 19th century (late Qing Dynasty) Chinese wooden brushrest carved in a form of a stylized rectangular section bamboo stem terminating with a peach on one end and a pomegranate on the other. Very unusual feature of two tiny elongated drawers coming out of the sides of the brushrest - probably meant for storing small items like tiny brushes or inksticks. Dense hardwood (must be wood species related to huanghuali), wonderful warm patina, old nicks, ink and water stains adding character to the piece.
