Late 19th century Chinese agate pendant of a monkey mother seated next to a large fruit while her young climbs onto her shoulder. Excellent quality carving, extremely clever use of differently colored agate layers - gray for the mother, black for young and fruit. Very pleasant finish, in excellent condition, opening for hanging under the young’s left wrist. Height 1 11/16 inches.
Late Qing Dynasty (late 19th century to 1911) Chinese jade thumb ring (also called archer’s ring because of its historic use in pulling the bowstring) of classic shape. True nephrite dark celadon jade with beautiful color variation in the stone. Nice finish to the surface, pleasantly heavy. Wonderful object for scholar’s table. Outside diameter 1 1/4 inches, inside diameter 7/8 inches, height 7/8 inches.
