Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) Chinese porcelain covered round box for seal paste with underglaze blue painting of scholars and ladies in a terraced garden setting and a background view of distant mountains. Excellent quality freehand painting with beautiful washes. Tiny scratches to the glaze, staining from seal paste around the rims, overall in great condition. Very quiet subtle piece for scholar’s table. Diameter 2 3/4 inches.

Late Qing dynasty (1890s-1910s) Chinese porcelain miniature bird water cup to be hung in a bird cage. Underglaze blue painting in the round with figures of 18 lohan (the set of original disciples of the Buddha) listening to the sitting Buddha under a pine tree. Superb quality painting with great shading and level of detail, with each lohan in different attitude. Fine glaze with tiny bubbles, in excellent condition, great object for scholar’s table. Height 1 inch, diameter 1 7/16 inches.

Wonderful quality uninhibited painting, beautiful glaze with tiny bubbles. Paste with typical blemishes, one tiny chip at the rim (can be see at about 1 o’clock on Enlargement 1). Very quiet subtle piece for scholar’s studio. Diameter 1 13/16 inches, height 7/16 inches.
