19th century Chinese Buddhist scepter made out of black coral. Ruyi scepter is a traditional symbol of scholarship in Chinese culture, as well as of transmission of knowledge in Buddhist monastery environment. Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) Chinese scholar small jadeite seal of classic cylindrical shape. Difficult to photograph. Wonderful piece appropriate for scholar’s desk, pleasant finish to the stone. The bottom is carved with two raised characters that can be translated as CLEAR STUDIO, red seal paste in the grooves. White natural untreated jadeite with beautiful apple green streak. Imprint of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Height 1 1/2 inches.

Rather massive and dramatically shaped black Lingbi limestone with intensive white veining and inclusions, very richly textured surface, nicely carved fitted stand. Can be viewed from at least 4 sides, wonderful object for contemplation on scholar’s table, one of the best rocks that I have had. Length with stand 11 inches, height with stand 6 inches, weight about 7 pounds.
