19th century Chinese scholarís rock / brush rest in a form of a piece of malachite perfectly resembling a range of hills covered with green vegetation. Also resembles a snail or a traveling caterpillar, can be viewed from two sides. Shape and colors may suggest a characteristic Guilin landscape of limestone peaks. Excellent natural stone with pleasant patina, fixed in carved fitted rosewood stand. Wonderful object for contemplation on scholarís desk. Height with stand 2 7/8 inches.

19th century Chinese soapstone seal carved on the top with a Foo lion, its head down to the ground touching a ball. Very beautiful stone with extensive red veining giving extra depth to the carving - probably Shoushan soapstone. Very nice carving, beautiful patina and wear, the bottom is carved with raised characters, red seal paste in the grooves, the impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Late Qing Dynasy (1880s 10 1911) century Chinese Peking glass seal in cylindrical shape. Wonderful simple piece appropriate for a scholarís table, very pleasant finish to the surface. Transparent glass with the slightest pink tinge. The bottom is carved with two raised characters that can be translated as EASTERN GARDEN, red seal paste in the grooves. Imprint of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Height 2 3/8 inches, diameter 1/2 inches.

Wonderful quality carving on beautiful material providing wonderful play of colors. Wonderful quality carving on variegated soapstone with colors ranging from tan to yellow to red. Rather unusual 19th century (late Qing Dynasty) Chinese scholarís rock made out of a piece of amber in a shape of a soaring rock. Does not photograph well - photos came out very harsh. The piece is very large for amber as material and shows the original surface of the amber nugget, which conveys a very good feeling of a weathered surface of a mountain. 19th century Chinese cloisonne brushrest in a shape of 2 larger and 2 smaller scrolls providing space for brush placement. Top of the scroll outsides are decorated with blooming flowers on lattice background, ruy clouds motif borders. Very nice quality work, wear and pitting consistent with age, in excellent condition. Size: 2 3/8 x 3 5/16 inches, height 9/16 inches.
