Rather unusual 1920s (early Showa period) Japanese mingei (Arts and Crafts) shallow copper box with chased and enameled decoration of a vine with blooming flowers on the cover. Beautiful work, textured surface, excellent patina, in great condition. Enameled green on the inside. Signed on the bottom ANDO TSUKURU (made by Ando) - it is unusual to see signed Ando pieces. Length 4 1/8 inches.

Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) Japanese beaten copper incense burner - tripod with wide body, flaring mouth and 3 short feet. Wonderful object made by hammering a chunk of copper, raising it and giving it shape - no casting is involved. Fantastic clean gently curving organic form with beautifully hammered surface and superb reddish patina, very pleasant to the touch. Signed JUZAN on the bottom, beautiful object for scholar’s desk. Height 2 1/4 inches, diameter 3 7/8 inches at the widest.

19th century Japanese sword menuki of a walking peasant with two objects - one in his back, the other in his hands, currently mounted as a pin and a pendant. Very clever design, superb detailing - see his face, silver socks, shakudo pants, and the coat inlaid with gold, silver, shakudo and copper squares. The material of the back, the clasp and swinging pendant loop appears to be silver. Height 1 15/16 inches.

19th century Japanese bronze / brass page turner with engraved blade and low relief handle depicting front and back views of an owl catching a frog in its talons. Very clever design, brilliant work with wonderful detailing - see the faces of the characters, finely worked feathers and warty skin. The blade is engraved with a bird in flight above different flowers. Wonderful object for writing desk. Length 10 3/4 inches.

19th century Japanese bronze / brass match safe with similar decoration on both sides of a falcon on a branch observing 2 plovers in flight against the sun. Crisp metalwork, excellent detailing of birds (see their differentiated feathers), pleasant patina. Ribbed match striker on the bottom, the springed cover opens and closes very well. Height 2 5/8 inches.

19th century Japanese bronze vase of mimikuchi shape with classic spiral design on the body. Bronze mimikuchi (“handle-mouth” - vase with 2 large hadles starting from the mouth) derives its shape and decoration from ancient ceramics, and were made in Japan starting from at least 17th century. Beautifully made, very pleasing shape, nice patina. Height 3 7/8 inches.
