Late Meiji / early Taisho miniature Japanese porcelain vase depicting a family of 3 cranes in different attitudes. Perfect potting, elegant shape, beautiful underglaze powder green ground, eyes and beaks of of the birds are done in underglaze blue, superb even glaze. Signed in underglaze blue SENPO SENO SEI (Made in Senpo’s pottery) on the bottom. Height 3 3/8 inches.

Rather unusual late Meiji (1890s to 1912) Japanese porcelain incense stick holder in a form of an oni holding a huge club studded with nails, the upper part of it forming a stick holder. Clever design, wonderful modeling - see its face and muscular limbs. Unglazed surface, nice patina, slight traces of incense tar by the stick hole. Height 2 5/8 inches.

19th century Edo period (before 1867) Japanese porcelain Hirado plate with scalloped edge and underglaze blue decoration of a dragon in pursuit of Tama (sacred pearl). Excellent potting, milky white body and clear glaze. Great early painting with charming freedom, wonderful dynamic design - see the flames issuing from the body of the dragon. Some surface wear as to be expected, overall in great condition. Diameter 7 1/4 inches.

Late Meiji - early Taisho (1910s) Japanese porcelain Hirado yusamashi with underglaze blue decoration of scholars playing the game of GO on a low table, accompanied by attendant boys. Yusamashi resembles European creamer in shape, and is used to add cold water to tea in order to bring it to comfortable drinking temperature. Late 19th - early 20th century Japanese porcelain vase of meiping shape decorated in the round with some raised and some painted designs of blooming chrysanthemums. Very clever work with about half of the flowers done in low relief, while the other half is done by stenciling, with finely ground pigment being blown onto the wet exposed surface before firing.
