1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with sturdy body and cup mouth. Shino ware with dark body and free potting - one can feel spiral lines on the body left by fingers of the potter and see a beautiful spiral line on the bottom. Gray Shino glaze with swirling rust colored lines, wonderful sense of energy to the piece. Marked with a potter’s seal on the foot, overall in excellent condition. Great object in Japanese taste. Height 5 3/8 inches.

1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with conical body and narrow mouth. The piece was made at Shigaraki kilns - one of the six ancient kilns of Japan - and displays typical coarse body with large sand particles, freely applied gray glaze with some areas that fired brick red. Excellent piece in Japanese taste, beautiful spiral line on the bottom. Some compressed dust, overall in excellent condition. Height 5 3/8 inches.
