Taisho period (1920s) Japanese hammered copper chakin tarai - bowl used in tea ceremony for soaking tea cloth & whisk. Excellent piece in arts and crafts spirit, hammered body with petal-shaped rim and silvered inside. Obvious signs of usage on the inside, beautiful 2-colored patina on the outside. Stamped on the bottom with a 4-character maker’s mark on the bottom. Produces very pleasing and long lasting sound when tapped. Diameter 7 1/4 inches, height 2 inches.

Unusual Japanese bamboo chashaku (tea scoop used for powdered tea during tea ceremony). This wide chashaku is used for transfer of powdered tea from the natsume to the tea bowl, and I believe this form of chashaku is called Su-Goshi. Comes in paulownia box and with wrapping cloth, must be about 50 years old. Excellent elegant object in perfect condition, beautiful patina from use.
