Taisho period (1920s) Japanese hammered copper chakin tarai - bowl used in tea ceremony for soaking tea cloth & whisk. Excellent piece in arts and crafts spirit, hammered body with petal-shaped rim and silvered inside. Obvious signs of usage on the inside, beautiful 2-colored patina on the outside. Stamped on the bottom with a 4-character maker’s mark on the bottom. Produces very pleasing and long lasting sound when tapped. Diameter 7 1/4 inches, height 2 inches.

Chinese scholar’s brush washer turned out of buffalo horn with four carved chimeras in different attitudes along its perimeter and key fret collar around its mouth. Does not photograph well. Superbly beautiful material with even texture and subtle translucency, wonderful carving. Excellent item for scholar’s desk. Width 2 7/8 inches, height 7/8 inches.

Ivory netsuke of a man seated by a hot sand brazier with a kettle on it, putting a book aside and stretching his arms. Excellent detailed carving - his his wonderful face, tobacco pouch with pipe case by his side, a ladle for stirring the sand, brazier, book and kettle textures. Beautifully stained and finished. Ivory netsuke of a seated dog licking its hind paw and wearing a cloth collar with a bell on it. Superb quality carving - see its face and body bulk. Good compact shape, cord hole is formed by is left hind leg, very beautiful even grained ivory, remarkable patina. Eyes are double inlaid with light and dark horn, signed IKKO SEIKOKU by its tail. Formerly in the Scott Meredith Collection. Height 1 5/16 inches.
