Japanese ivory netsuke of a sarumawashi (traveling monkey trainer) gently petting and offering a persimmon to his charge sitting in front of him. Beautifully conveys relationships between two characters. There is a nice detail for a netsuke lover - he is wearing a tobacco pouch and cased pipe suspended by a manju netsuke. Wonderfully captured mood of the scene excellent work with great detailing - see her delicately carved curves and elaborate hair arrangement. Clean even grained ivory, beautiful finish to the piece. Japanese ivory netsuke of a standing old man with cane, and holding two items on a rope across his shoulder - a lunch box on his front and a basket with persimmons with branches and leaves on his back. The subject is probably a grandfather visiting his grandchildren, beautifully conveys the mood of the scene. Japanese bamboo chashaku (tea scoop used for powdered tea during tea ceremony) of simple elegant shape with gold on black lacquer decoration of cherry flowers on branches. Superb quality work, in perfect condition. Comes in original box with cord for securing the lid, and with wrapping cloth, must be about 30 years old. Ivory netsuke of a reclining horse, its hooves drawn under its body forming a compact netsuke shape, head turned back as it is neighing vigorously. Wonderful sense of volume, excellent hairwork, great face with amber and horn inlaid eyes. Netsuke was carved out of a central part of a tusk containing central nerve canal, which was was plugged on the bottom and expertly carved as part of a leg, as well as on the top (to the left of the neck, can be seen on Enlargement 2). Ivory netsuke of standing Jurojin holding a turtle on his hand. Jurojin is one of 7 Gods of Good Fortune, that of longevity, and the turtle - one of his usual companions - is also associated with longevity. The netsuke is essentially a wish for long life. Very nicely carved, great level of detail and perfectly captured facial expression, expert staining.
