| Unusual 18c North Indian bronze belt attachment for hanging a dagger in a form of an animal that looks like a winged griffin. Very nice quality work with clever design utilizing the shape of the object to represent the wings of the creature. Pleasant patina, beautiful wear, in great condition. Height 2 1/4 inches, wing span 2 inches. The piece comes from the collection of Samuel Eilenberg - a world-renowned mathematician and a legendary collector. He was the recipient of 1986 Wolf Prize, mathematics’ equivalent of a Nobel Prize. He was equally bright as a collector, his area of expertise being small bronzes and stone objects from India and South-East Asia. Objects from his collection can be found today in the Metropolitan Museum, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the V&A in London. | ||
