Rather unusual early 19th century Japanese cloisonne scholar’s brushwasher decorated with various flower roundels on light blue background with scrolling clouds. Every roundel is different, very pleasant finish with original pitting, bottom is plain metal with nice wear and patina. No cracks, bald areas seen on the top of the inside are original (were fired this way). Rare and early piece in terms of Japanese cloisonne, from the period of transition from Chinese to Japanese style. Great humble piece in Japanese taste. Height 2 1/2 inches, diameter 3 1/8 inches.
