Netsuke of a reclining horse, its hooves drawn under its body forming a compact netsuke shape, head turned back as it is neighing vigorously. Wonderful sense of volume, excellent hairwork, great face with amber and horn inlaid eyes. Netsuke was carved out of a central part of a tusk containing central nerve canal, which was was plugged on the bottom and expertly carved as part of a leg, as well as on the top (to the left of the neck, can be seen on Enlargement 2). Himotoshi (cord opening) goes under the plugged foot on the bottom. Beautiful even material, wonderful finish to the surface. Signed KIKO (alternative reading is Bokushi) on the bottom. Height 1 9/16 inches.
