Mid - 19th century Chinese official hat finial denoting 7th civil rank. This type of rank insignia was introduced by the Yongzheng emperor in 1727 for use on ji guan - the semi-formal hat. Different colors denoted different ranks, with gilt bead corresponding to the 7th - see IMPERIAL WARDROBE by Dickinson & Wrigglesworth, p. 108. Nice bead with fire gilding showing wear, filigree metal parts with bottom section depicting a pile of jewels, the top of the metal fixture is engraved with SHOW (long life) character. Height 1 9/16 inches.
