Early 19th century Japanese porcelain Imari plate with scalloped edge enameled with variously shaped reserves containing different brocade patterns and 2 scenes - one of a crane on a pine tree, and the other of a kneeling woman on a mat . Most probably the woman represented is famous Japanese poetess Ono no Komachi (who was a court beauty with a notoriously cold heart). Scrolling vine design on the outside of the foot is painted in underglaze blue. Great early painting with charming carelessness, typical potting blemishes characteristic of the period. Some surface scratches, wear to enamels as to be expected, overall in very good condition. Diameter 8 1/2 inches.
