Rather unusual 19th century carved (not pressed) horn netsuke of Sennin Tobosaku holding a Peach of Immortality which he stole from Seiobo. Seiobo is the Chinese Queen of the Fairies, with Peach of Immortality ripening on a tree in her garden only once in 3 thousand years. Excellent carving, great smiling face, superb depiction of textile lines. Very clever use of natural differences in the color of material itself, deep himotoshi, beautiful patina, great feel of age to the piece. Signed on the bottom (did not photograph well) - signature appears to read MINKEN, but I am not certain. Height 2 inches.
