Early 19th century wooden netsuke of a large kaki (persimmon fruit) with branch and leaves and its inside hollowed revealing 2 sages playing the game of GO inside. Most probably one of the players is the wise man Kibidaijin who was sent to China for studies, learned the game of Go, and introduced the game to Japan upon his return. Very nice work done in anabori (inside carving) technique, clever design, himotoshi is formed by the stem on the bottom, very beautiful wear and patina. Height 1 5/8 inches.
