| 19th century ivory netsuke of kneeling Okame snickering as she holds onto a long nose of huge tengu mask. The netsuke is definitely of shunga type with not so subtle sexual connotation. Wonderfully carved and etched (see her face, hair arrangement and folds of her kimono), beautiful patina on very good quality material. Spots on her forehead and mask eye are inlaid with black horn. Signed MITSUTSUGU on the bottom - the netsuke appears to be the one in Brockhaus “Netsuke” and reproduced in MCI : The Meinertzhagen Card Index of Netsuke in the Archives of the British Museum, p. 556. Excellent sculpture. Height 1 3/8 inches. | ||
