| 19th century ivory netsuke of a sennin (Chinese sage) standing on the clouds with a fan in his hands. This particular sennin seems to be a rare image, outside of the usual set of sennins represented in netsuke. Superbly carved, great smiling face, beautiful flow to his robe blown by the wind, fantastic etching of hair, clouds and textile patterns. Wonderful wear consistent with age. Signed ANRAKU on the back - he is an excellent carver and is discussed on p. 295 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Great sculpture.
