| 19th century ivory netsuke carved as a group of 10 rats of different sizes in different attitudes. Signed MASATERU on inlaid wooden reserve on the bottom - the artist was a grandson of the great Kaigyokusai, and is listed on p. 731 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Extraordinary clean carving made out of excellent quality material. Fantastic level of detail, superb quality hairwork, all eyes inlaid with dark or light horn horn. Beautiful patina, in excellent condition. Great sculpture by the master carver. Length 1 1/2 inches. | ||
