A pair of Chinese rank squares from the 19th Century. The squares were made for a wife of a mandarin, and measure 8 3/4" wide x 8" tall. The wild goose and the sun are applique, and the badge's design has been done by very fine gold and colored metallic thread couching on black silk. The back lining is blue green silk. Condition: The condition is good with a few loose threads. The squares show some use, and the treads that held them to the robe are still attached. There is a "made in China" marking on the back of one square that was stamped on at a later date. Free shipping within the USA.
