Exquisite Antique Japanese Chaire with Ivory Lid

A superb tea ceremony 'Taikai' chaire or tea caddy, complete with its shifuku or silk storage bag, dating to the early 20th or earlier. This Taikai cha-ire is of the low squat type with a round shoulder (It is slightly larger than the Chukai chaire). A rich honey chocolate glaze with umber accents dance around the body of this Seto chaire. The heavy ivory lid is gold lined and exhibits a slight yellowing through age. The foot is unglazed with the base featuring the typical string-cut pattern, dark through years of use. Overall condition is excellent for age with the shifuku showing some light stress. Dimensions: 2 1/4" x 3 1/2". An excellent addition to any serious collection of teaware or for use by the tea practitioner.
