Original pastel drawing of a Troika in distress, ca. 1880. Signed in pastel, lower right. On paper, laid on a linen stretcher. There is a 5/8" long, 1/4" wide water stain just to the right of the gun muzzle and a pinhead fleck at the lower left. A very well-accomplished pastel presentation. Canvas is 15" x 24 1/4."

From Salem Academy. Artist is from Salem, NC, 1848-1905. Has remained in the Spach / Goslen family since ca. 1865. Painting has a tear in the center bottom portion, repaired with archival tape, along with foxing, staining and waviness in the upper left corner. Paper measures 14 1/8" x 19 1/8."
