First Edition, 250 pages with two large folding maps and 72 lithographed and chromolithographed plates (colored or tinted). Plates are numbered 1-75, but plates 2, 21, and 39 were not issued. Two large folding maps: 1. 'Reconnaissances Of Routes From San Antonio de Bexar To El Paso del Norte.' P. S. Duval 24 5/8" x 36 3/4;" small tear 1 1/2" at insertion point, but otherwise in very good condition. 2. 'Map Of The Route Pursued In 1849 By The U. S. Troops Under The Command Of Bvt. Lieutenant Col. Jno. M. Washington, Governor of New Mexico, In An Expedition Against The Navajos Indians.' Philadelphia, P. S. Duval, 21" x 28." Bound in publisher's original black cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Small chip on spine. Cover is worn and bumped at corners; spine ends chipped. Some bug damage to back cover and left edge of spine. Back cover is also damp-stained, which has affected rear endpapers and lightly stained last three plates: 73, 74 and 75 (Only Plate 75 may be objectionable). Toned and foxed throughout. 9 1/8" tall.
