The small framed oil on panel painting by Gordon Knowles Carter (1902-1991) is of a landscape with rolling hills in the background with dark-green trees and a winding pathway; in the foreground are bright yellow flowering plants. Carter studied at Chouinard Art School along with F. Tolles Chamberlain, Clarence Hinkle and Lawrence Murphy. He also worked in the art department for the LA Times while in art school. The artist is listed with the PAFA, 1927; Calif. WC Society, 1927-29; Calif. Artists, Pasadena Art Institute, 1928, 1930; LACMA, 1929; Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1930; St. Louis Artists Guild, 1930-31 and work in the Phoenix Museum. It is signed by the artist in the lower right-hand corner. Condition is excellent. Size: 10 ½” x 13 ¾” (frame 14 ¼” x 17 ½”) The frame has some loss of gilt.
