| Modern looking parlor suite was designed by Josef Hoffmann, Austrian (1879-1956), consists of four chairs, a settee and a tall round table in black bentwood with curvilinear and rectilinear lines covered in a black and white textile with birds, leopards and foliage, circa 1915. Joseph Hoffman was an Austrian architect, modern classic designer and craftsman, also known as "Quadrilateral Hoffmann” due to his passion for geometrical forms. He developed a "cubistic" language of form with its emphasis on straight, unadorned lines. Hoffmann is well-known for the simple, restrained, yet visually interesting dining chairs, several intended for cafés, that he designed early in the 20th century.
