This special antique silk juban (under kimono garment) features a floral and fan motif on a violet-red ground. Large white shibori plum blossoms appear on this soft very lightweight rinzu silk. The gorgeous white silk collar was woven with a raised “bumpy” texture look and feel.
Inside is a very old handwoven off-white raw silk. Condition: excellent (3 tiny age spots on the outside back and 3 small spots on the lining). Size: 47” across the top; 45” top to bottom. Sleeve: W-12” x L-17”. Such superior textile artwork would be a wonderful addition to your kimono collection; also adding a lovely touch to home décor.
Textile arts have played an important role in traditional Japan for more than one thousand years. Master artisans created these one-of-a kind treasures that were highly valued in their day and are now highly collectible. For centuries, Japanese style of garments evolved to the modern day kimono. Japanese rulers dictated strict dress codes for many centuries. An individual’s rank, class, gender, age and marital status determined the kimono’s material type, the colors, and patterns that someone could wear.
Age: Taisho: 1912-1926). |
