An interesting antique Japanese carving made from the material known as Umimatsu in Japan. This material is thought to be black coral or petrified wood. In the natural shape of a coral or petrified wood branch with a well carved bird with a red glass inlaid eye. Featuring a superb antique Japanese Sumida Gawa mug/cup with sage and snail. The sage, standing on a rock, is holding a book in one hand with blue writing. An early and fine cloisonne napkin ring made by one of the best makers of Japanese cloisonne in the late 19th century, Namikawa Yasuyuki. Measuring 7/8" wide and 1 3/4" in diameter. With 3 butterflies, flowers and scrolls on a slightly speckled tan background and a typical arrow like boarder. These napkin rings are pictured in the photo from 1902 by C.H.
