A rare and fine example of mid 19th century Japanese porcelain from the Arita area of Japan. It is completely hand painted depicting classic ancient scholars with books and brushes. There are touches of brushed gold on the boarders, clothing, and furniture. The porcelain is a gray-off white. The painting is extremely well done. One spoon dates to 1799, the other to 1805. Excellent condition. 19th century Chinese porcelain snuff bottle with biscuit type finish with 18 wise men depicted, hand painted. Chien Lung mark on base. Measures 3 1/4" high, 2 1/4" wide and about 1 1/2" deep.
