A fine French desk set with ivory handled wax seal, pen and letter opener (doubles as a bookmark) in fitted box with red velvet lining. The ivory handles of all 3 pieces are beautifully hand tooled with gold and silver designs of shells, flowers and scroll boarders. Good cross hatching grains in the elephant ivory. On the sterling silver mounts of the pen are French hallmarks of eagle head and head of woman. The letter opener also serves as a bookmark. Featuring a superb, antique, Victorian solid sterling silver card case with engraving at its best. Hidden hinge. Dates to the late 19th century. Beautifully engraved on both sides with profuse flowers, scrolls, other designs, and an area for engraved initials. Featuring a very rare early English sterling silver sealing wax jack. Hallmarked on handle, foot, snuffer and on top piece. The hall marks are hard to decipher, but there are lions, a C in a shield that looks like the Newcastle C for 1769, and there is the castle for Newcastle. There are makers marks of GN over HH in a shield. It is very hard for me to determine the age of this piece, but it is very nice and may be this early. This is a wonderful porcelain Capo Di Monte demitasse cup and saucer dating to the 3rd quarter of the 19th century.
