Featuring a dramatic and wonderful Japanese studio Hirado porcelain plate with a mythological 4 footed beast with a dragon face, possibly an unusual form of a kirin, and a long coiled dragon, both facing each other and ready to attack. Dating to the last half of the 19th century. Measures 9 3/4" in diameter. Very good condition with no chips, cracks, restorations. There is some surface wear with light scratches. Featuring a superb antique Japanese Sumida Gawa mug/cup with sage and snail. The sage, standing on a rock, is holding a book in one hand with blue writing. Featuring a fine Meiji era Satsuma 7.5" plate with image of a samurai in a landscape with buildings in the distance and a crowd of figures. The rim is minutely decorated with polychrome flowers and five reserves with various flowers. Signed in gilt and impressed marks for Kinkozan. The scene depicts Act 2 from Chusengara. Featuring a lovely Japanese antique gold lacquer comb,or Kushi. Unusual carved relief design on both sides, and thin top which carries over to both sides. 3 3/8" long x 1 5/16" high. Good condition, but one area pictured may be a repair. Dates to the late 19th century. This outstanding magnifying glass, combined with a 19th century beautifully carved Chinese elephant ivory handle, is a stunner and excellently assembled with a great lens for magnification. The overall length measures 12" long and the lens is 4 1/2" in diameter. Must see to believe. Featuring a wonderful Japanese carving of a farmer carrying a basket of fall gourds and vegetables on his shoulder, and holding a bunch of grapes in his hand with a bug on a leaf. At his feet is a frog peeking out from a leaf, and a sack with some rice cakes in it. The underside of the base is signed with an inlaid red lacquer signature. Featuring a lovely Satsuma plate with an exquisite subtle scene of a pair of male and female ducks swimming amongst grasses and pale pink flowers with gold centers. The artist that painted this scene used great skill in all details, shading and blending of colors, and with the suggestion of haze to the left side as it fades into shadow foliage in the distance.
