Featuring a dramatic blue and white Japanese Hirado studio porcelain plate with a dragon and a mythological 4 footed supernatural beast with horns, hooves and a tail, possible an unusual form of a Kirin. Featuring a dramatic and wonderful Japanese studio Hirado porcelain plate with a mythological 4 footed beast with a dragon face, possibly an unusual form of a kirin, and a long coiled dragon, both facing each other and ready to attack. Dating to the last half of the 19th century. Measures 9 3/4" in diameter. Very good condition with no chips, cracks, restorations. There is some surface wear with light scratches. Fine Japanese studio porcelain 3 legged koro with pierced pink chrysanthemum cover. Design carries over to base with artistically drawn leaves. Signed Kato Kanzan on the reverse of the lid.
