A handsome, aristocratic gentleman, probably American, very finely executed, watercolor painting on ivory, dating to the early 20th century. This man has an exceptionally gentle, kind look in his face, eyes and expression. The well coiffed beard and mustache details are so well painted, as is the entire piece. He is wearing a dress suit, vest, and tie with a stick pin. There is a signature and date in the lower left hand corner that looks like it could be N E Cummings 1920. Judging from the fine workmanship,it is obvious that the artist was skilled and well trained. The original beaded silver plated frame is worn, but nevertheless, fitting and appropriate to the piece and period. The back is set with a piece of green velvet. Measures 3" x 2 1/4"+. Appears to be in excellent condition.
