| This tempera or gouache painting "Aurora", was painted in the mid 19th century after the original fresco painting by the 17th century artist Guido Reni(1575-1642). The original painting is in the Rospigliosi palace in Rome. It depicts the mythological goddess of the dawn, Aurora, leading a team of horses from the night sky into the dawn as she brings light to the world. Apollo is shown in his chariot ready for another creative day. Signed by the artist Felicia Sansoloni, the detail in this 19th century copy is outstanding(see close up photos of detail). An old sticker came with the painting when it was in the original frame and is now on the back of the present frame backing(photo available). The sticker states that the painting was "brought from Europe in 1852 by Peter B. Porter for his own home and (eventually) given to (the) Nelson family in 1953". The gold Greek key frame, white and blue mats are replacements. The painting measures 20 1/2" x 10 1/2" and with the frame, 27 x 19 1/4". All in excellent condition.
