| Among Kinkozan's best and most artistic workmanship, this fantastic Satsuma bowl represents the importance of nature and the sea to the Japanese culture. The hundreds of profuse, colorful flowers, in many different varieties, cover 3/4 of the exterior and on the interior, the exquisite flowers are the background of the 3 panels. The central panel depicts Japanese life in the foreground amongst flowering cherry trees and a village by the sea in the background. The panel to the left pictures a beautiful bird that resembles a pheasant with bright plumage perched on the branch of a flowering tree, with Mt. Fuji above, and mate and chicks below. The amazing right panel is filled with many varieties of fish and sea life. The bowl measure 7 1/2" in diameter and 3" high and dates from 1890. The most skilled artist painted this bowl with one Japanese hair and a magnifying glass. There is much raised enamel and gold. The raised gold Kinkozan signature is quite elaborate with other decorations surrounding it, only found on the best Kinkozan pieces. One must see this piece to believe it. Satsuma workmanship does not get much better than this. No cracks, chips, damages or restorations whatsoever. Please feel free to ask questions or for more photos.
