Art Nouveau jewelry was born out of the desire to create artistic pieces in contrast to the often beautiful but less imaginative jewelry that had become commonplace in the late Victorian Era. Inspired by the rage in Japanese art and fueled by the International Exposition of 1862, nature in all forms and curvilinear lines began to be interpreted widely in Art Nouveau jewelry. This piece is a fine example of American Art Nouveau. A 14kt yellow gold, peridot and enamel necklace on a tracelink chain, 14 1/2" long, this is delicate and charming necklace is in excellent condition and the peridots are nice and bright. Circa 1900
