The Victorian women loved their long chains and often wore a few at the same time. The next time you are visiting a museum, take a look at the jewelry in some of the paintings and you will notice the chains as well as other pieces which may begin to look familiar. I love to find the similarities in pieces I own and ones I see in books and paintings!
This 14kt link chain is unusual not only for the length (28 inches) but also for the the lovely and delicate double infinity link element. However, you don't have to worry that this is too delicate to wear; after all it has withstood at least 100 years! There is no clasp but it is long enough to triple - so in essence you'll have 2 necklaces in one. A wonderful classic piece for your collection to wear alone, with other chains or to hang a pendant or locket. Needless to say, I love this chain for its versatility as well as the design.
Condition: Excellent
Measurements: 28" long; each link is 5/8" long by 1/4" wide
Gross Weight: 18.3 dwt; 28.6 grams Circa: 1900; American

The end of World War I brought with it a desire for clean and modern looks in clothing and jewelry. In this age of the Flapper, the "pools of light" necklaces became a very popular look, as they were often worn as a fashionable accessory and shimmered beautifully in the low lights of the speakeasy. Increased travel to the Orient brought with it an interest in the art, jewelry and style of the East.
Chinese in origin and referred to as "pools of light", these crystal orbs of rock crystal are never drilled as the Chinese believed that this would allow the spirits and the good luck from within to escape. Instead, they are wrapped in silver wire and metal and held together by silver rings. The crystals take on the color of the fabric against which they rest and reflect other tones and hues in an almost magical manner. Cool and relaxing to the touch, they take on a meditative quality.
35 beads each measuring 5/8 of an inch in diameter.
28" long (14" from top to bottom when worn)
Gross weight: 88.2 dwt (137.2 grams)
Chinese in origin; usually made for the English market.
Condition is very good.

The archaeological discoveries of the Roman and Etruscan sites in the mid 18th century, inspired a revival of the type of jewelry discovered, characterized by granulation, twisted gold wire and filigree techniques. This lovely necklace shows this influence in the wire-work gold beads used decoratively between the plain gold beads and the faceted amethysts. Beads are hollow and a few have minor dents hardly noticeable to the naked eye. Otherwise, condition is very good. Newer 14kt clasp. Just over 13" long; it is the perfect accent piece to wear with jeans and a tee or over a sweater. Circa 1890.

A lovely and delicate necklace of beautiful peridot and seed pearl set in 9kt yellow gold. This style of necklace, also referred to as a festoon, was very popular in the late victorian era, especially set with the semi-precious gem peridot, which is also August's birthstone and a lovely, bright shade of green. This piece is an open work necklace, bezel set with faceted peridots and accented by the tiny seed pearls. The open back settings allows for the most light and brilliance to the stones. English or American Circa 1900 14" to the top of the design; 18" in total. The 'pendant' portion of the necklace measures 2" by 2" 4.9dwt (7.6 grams) Condition is excellent.

Immensely popular during the early 18th century, paste discovered a huge resurgence in the second half of the 19th century. The artistry and design of this most likely French and very feminine necklace is a most wonderful example of the style of the period from the late 1800s.
Stylized floral motifs containing pear shaped pastes accent a central bow element centering a round cut. Pastes are foiled and set within traditional closed backs in silver. Lovely small bow elements between each of the larger floral motif elements. One of the floral elements may have been removed long ago as there are now 3 going up one side of the neck and 4 on the other. Some slight yellowing to a few of the pastes; clarity and luster vary due to age and foiling. As this would be worn in the evening, these slight imperfections would hardly be noticeable, if at all.
16 1/8" in length; 3/4" at the widest.
Weight is 30.8 dwt
Condition is very good with some intensity and color variations due to foiling and age.
Circa 1890 and most likely French in origin though no hallmarks are visible.

A fading sunset is what the color of these rhodocrosite beads remind me of! Woven throughout are lacy white bands which add much to the luster of this special stone. Lore has it that this stone is called the "stone of love and balance". Art Nouveau jewelry was born out of the desire to create artistic pieces in contrast to the often beautiful but less imaginative jewelry that had become commonplace in the late Victorian Era. Inspired by the rage in Japanese art and fueled by the International Exposition of 1862, nature in all forms and curvilinear lines began to be interpreted widely in Art Nouveau jewelry. This piece is a fine example of American Art Nouveau. A 14kt yellow gold, peridot and enamel necklace on a tracelink chain, 14 1/2" long, this is delicate and charming necklace is in excellent condition and the peridots are nice and bright. Circa 1900

Reverse carved and painted crystals are wonderful and when done as well as this, are little paintings you can wear! This technique of carving a domed crystal from the backside and painting it from the back (in reverse!), was discovered in 1860 and became quite popular through the 1930s. Most often, these depicted sporting scenes, fish, birds and dogs. Insects which appear especially so realistic, are often thought to be real as this technique seems to bring the subject to life in its 3 dimensionality. This little terrier sitting on the beach so alertly, with his ears up gazing out at the ocean, was most likely a specially commissioned piece by its owner, very unusual and rare. He is so beautifully handpainted, you can see the individual hairs of his fur, the palm like trees and the columns on the house in the background. (Note: The light which looks like a sunset behind the trees is actually just appearing due to my lighting. In reality, the sky is simply the mother of pearl background seen on the right side.) The piece is framed and backed in a 14kt gold mount with a bale from which to attach a gold chain or a beautiful ribbon. I've never seen one like this! The condition is excellent. 1 1/4" diameter. Circa 1920.
