I love garnets and this fantastic Victorian bracelet contains 5 beautifully matched garnets set into the most amazingly modern looking gold link design. That's one of the things about Victorian jewelry that fascinates me; some of it is so contemporary in it's design that it appeals to many different sensibilities!

Viewing Elizabeth Locke's jewelry is like taking a tour through history. Locke retrieves elements from ages past and re-purposes them into her hand crafted 18kt new jewelry. With her knowledge of and passion for antique jewelry techniques, she also creates entirely new pieces which might fool you at first glance. This ring is just such a piece incorporating a hand carved agate with the image of a dog trotting along set into a wide 18kt yellow gold hand hammered mounting. This is a stunning ring for the Locke collector, dog lover or any jewelry enthusiast.

I do love the Schlumberger designs and this is one of my favorites; the 5 row rope band with 8 rows of diamonds crossing and a diamond weight of approximately 0.50 ct. Classic and wearable as a wedding band or simply as a right hand ring, this is spectacular.

Seaman Schepps, sometimes called "America's court jeweler", rose to prominence in NY in the 1930s by changing the face of jewelry with his designs. "With a visionary sense of distinction, Schepps blended the unexpected-marrying diamonds, precious metals and man-made materials, choosing his media brilliantly to create a splendid palette of tone and hue. Through unparalleled experimentation, he pioneered a unique style of jewelry whose sense of splendor offered a new perspective to the world of fine jewelry and created one of the most popular trends in twentieth century jewelry. Schepps stood for style and originality more than wealth and appealed to an enormous range of clients."
These stunning earrings are quintessential Schepps; quilted cushion earrings in 18kt yellow gold wrapped sard (a variety of chalcedony) studded with brilliant citrines. Part of the "Cage Collection", although these are still produced in walnut, I don't believe the sard are still in production. Earrings frame the face and the size, color and accents on these work perfectly with any hair color and most but the dressiest outfits. My theory is to invest in the basics and these are some of the best.

Reverse carved and painted crystals are wonderful and when done as well as this, are little paintings you can wear! This technique of carving a domed crystal from the backside and painting it from the back (in reverse!), was discovered in 1860 and became quite popular through the 1930s. Most often, these depicted sporting scenes, fish, birds and dogs. Insects which appear especially so realistic, are often thought to be real as this technique seems to bring the subject to life in its 3 dimensionality. This little terrier sitting on the beach so alertly, with his ears up gazing out at the ocean, was most likely a specially commissioned piece by its owner, very unusual and rare. He is so beautifully handpainted, you can see the individual hairs of his fur, the palm like trees and the columns on the house in the background. (Note: The light which looks like a sunset behind the trees is actually just appearing due to my lighting. In reality, the sky is simply the mother of pearl background seen on the right side.) The piece is framed and backed in a 14kt gold mount with a bale from which to attach a gold chain or a beautiful ribbon. I've never seen one like this! The condition is excellent. 1 1/4" diameter. Circa 1920.
