| Immensely popular during the early 18th century, paste discovered a huge resurgence in the second half of the 19th century. The artistry and design of this most likely French and very feminine necklace is a most wonderful example of the style of the period from the late 1800s. Stylized floral motifs containing pear shaped pastes accent a central bow element centering a round cut. Pastes are foiled and set within traditional closed backs in silver. Lovely small bow elements between each of the larger floral motif elements. One of the floral elements may have been removed long ago as there are now 3 going up one side of the neck and 4 on the other. Some slight yellowing to a few of the pastes; clarity and luster vary due to age and foiling. As this would be worn in the evening, these slight imperfections would hardly be noticeable, if at all. 16 1/8" in length; 3/4" at the widest. Weight is 30.8 dwt Condition is very good with some intensity and color variations due to foiling and age. Circa 1890 and most likely French in origin though no hallmarks are visible. | |||||||
