The Victorians were well known to have their own language of flowers. In fact, during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 - 1901) this knowledge was as important to people as being well dressed. The obvious interpretation of the rose is that of love, yet each color carried it's own specific meaning. Here this sweet spaniel offers a pink rose, symbolizing admiration as well as love and with his little uplifted paw as an additional gesture, well how could any girl refuse. He almost seems to be smiling at her while his eyes must nearly display the feelings of his master. This beautifully shaped pendant, which appears to have once been a locket, can be worn on a chain or a ribbon and is just the loveliest face on a dog that I have ever seen. I fell for it the minute I laid eyes on him! Condition: Very good; minor surface scratches Metal: 14kt or 15kt yellow gold; untested Circa: 1890 |
