Shiko Munakata had a long association with Yaskawa Electric. The company commissioned work by the artist and began issuing calendars featuring work produced by Munakata Studio in 1958. Each print is on very thin handmade Japanese paper (washi). The paper and the lithographic technique employed result in excellent color and texture as well as ink effects similar to the woodblock editions. Calendars containing these prints were sent to a select group of Yaskawa clients and have since become very desirable. We were fortunate to acquire a large group from a Japanese gentleman who received them directly from the company.
All of the prints are made to be detached from the calendars and displayed. The prints we have posted are all in a detached state.
